Josie’s Pizza

Placid Catalfina immigrated to the US on December 22, 1920 from Sicily, Italy at the young age of 13 years, along with his family. He sailed into New York Harbor on the Duca d’Aosta ship as a 3rd class passenger and was registered as an immigrant at Ellis Island under the name Catalfamo, which the family later Americanized to Catalfina.
When Mom & Pop Kelly (Catalfina) opened Josie’s Pizza, they decided to put the pepperoni underneath the cheese. They believed it would lock in more flavor and allow the pepperoni juices to meld into the dough for a traditional Italian pizza experience.
To this day, this is how our pepperoni pizza is made at Josie’s.
However, we are happy to put the pepperoni on top for our customers who prefer it that way!
